Often neglected is ensuring that they are set up with the tools to get a perfect dental score as they begin a new school year. Here are our recommendations as the year begins to start incorporating into your child&#8217;s oral health routine to maintain a healthy and happy smile.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brushing &amp; Flossing&nbsp;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While at the store buying new backpacks and school supplies, make sure to stock up on toothbrushes and floss for the new school year. A fundamental step in maintaining oral health is routine cleaning of the teeth. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ada.org\/en\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American Dental Association<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> recommends brushing for two minutes, twice a day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Further more, it\u2019s important to switch out toothbrushes every three to four months for proper hygiene. You might even consider packing an extra toothbrush and toothpaste in your child&#8217;s backpack to use after their lunch. No matter how you incorporate brushing and flossing into your daily routine, making it a fun part of your day will ensure they don\u2019t put up a fight.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Restrict Sugar Intake&nbsp;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can be tempting to pack treats for your child in their lunch boxes or for an afternoon snack. One of the best ways to fight cavities and champion a healthy smile is to restrict sugar intake and foods that can harm your teeth. Swap out the candy and soda for healthy alternatives like flavored water and sweet fruits. Leave the sugar for special occasions when they can appreciate the treat.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kid Athletes: Use Mouthguards&nbsp;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your child is involved in sports, we recommend making a mouthguard an essential part of your child\u2019s routine. The American Dental Association found an athlete is 60 times more likely to suffer harm to the teeth when not wearing a mouthguard. It\u2019s always good to stay on the safe side and have your child wear a mouthguard while playing any school sports.
